How do you make/is there any technique for scanning an area

this is a bit much for one message,

you must set up a variable to be the max it can move,
and you must allow certain ranges on the grid ect.

Hmm, if i copy this code into the chess game i started (no code, exept for checkers code) GE crashes...
It has been crashing frequently lately (i do not hack windows, and linux works WORSE!)
