Help using geplayer

Postby beginnerirvaz » Sun Oct 23, 2011 11:12 pm

Hey ive just purchased the geplayer from the app store. I followed I few tutorials to export my iPhone game to get the dat file. I then used FileZilla and dragged my dat into it but when I select stop server my game doesn't start. Does anybody have any ideas what I may have done wrong?

Also is it ok to create a game 960 x 640 to export to iPhone? I thought this may be an issue so also tried exporting a standard 480 x 320 game and I get the same problem.

Thanks

Don't use retina resolution, just the 480x320 standard (though you might try it out just to confirm that it doesn't work). One thing is that you need to name your game geplayer.dat. Other than that, it should just work.

Hey thanks for the reply, my file was named gePlayer i changed to geplayer and it worked.

I did try 960 x 640 and it didn't work. Can I ask about image quality, I have produced some sprites with inkscape and exported to .png. They are 480 x 320 and look great on my comp but when I tested me app with ge player look really poor. Is there something I should doing or can do to stop this?

I haven't experienced any problems with image quality. Perhaps you can post the images?

hey thanks again for the reply, ill upload a few images when i get home and see what you think. I originally had my ge project set to 960 - 640 assuming i could use retina so all my images were also based on this size. i resized my project to iphones standard 480 - 320 and resized all my images in inkscape to 480 - 320 and exported to png. when i open the png on my mac it looks great (small but great) when i upload it to ge theres a slight loss in qaulity but nothing major. once i export to ge player the images are very poor. i have a 2 colour gradient background and it looks very liney.. broken up into chunks (sorry about the poor explanation) parts that should just be smooth block colour look very pixelated... i will try and take a screenshot on my iphone and upload so you can see for your self.

thanks

I have same problem, a gradient image that is chunky. I tried it on another engine and it dose the same problem. It's not GE. But it can be the iPod or the file.

I attached the file 4 you to test.

Hello!

I had a similar problem with the background of my game. I reduced the number of shades of the gradient (made it less smooth).

Is the gradient used for transparency?

it's a 24 bits pgn made with CorelDraw. I believe it use the gradient as transperency, cause a jpg would not work well on gradient.
I don't mind to use another application than corel draw, but I can't afford Photoshop for now.

I added a transparent pixel on top left corner... it worked on the other engine (the gradient show nice on the iPod) cause it can detect the pixel in any palces, but not with GE.

I guess it's easy when the sprite is not covering the full page like my rectangle.

I added the updated file.

I used a .png 32 bits from paint.net. Same result on the iPod.
