Mode7 (The SNES way to make 3D)

I am doing research for a future game and I think I need to research mode 7 for SNES since our plan is reproduce a game like SNES.
Too bad the link in the 1st post is broken now.
I was hoping to take a look at it.
I guess i'll have to read the code in the .zip and try to understand what mode 7 is all about.

Mode 7 is a cool, Super Nintendo scaling ability to adjust bitmap sprites, and helps give the illusion that they're moving closer, as in the examples above. Would've been cool if this feature was already in Game-Editor.
