PlayMusic crashes Game Editor

Postby lverona » Sun Jan 20, 2013 1:45 pm

Hey fellas!

Switched to Ubuntu 12.04.

Sudden problem - trying to add PlayMusic (or PlayMusic2) to the script - as soon as I choose the ogg file from the dialog - GameEditor crashes with "Floating point exception (core dumped)".

What could I be doing wrong?

The usual reason is that gE used oss, though if you are using a newer version of gE, that should be fixed. There used to be an alsaplayer supporting version of gE on the .net site, but I believe that change has been implemented in the normal version of gE. But if downloading a new copy of gE doesn't fix the problem, then you'll have to install oss sound support.

Does it mean that a person with no oss support would not be albe to run the compiled version too?

It seems I do have all the oss stuff installed, but the problem persists. Any other advice?

gE's version numbers were never updated for 1.4, so 1.4.0 can mean any number of versions. The alsa version was at least dec 2010, which I guess means the binaries were never updated. I would recommend using the alsa version, but right now that is still giving the same problem for me, and I'm not sure if the corresponding export engine was ever updated. I don't remember ever downloading it. I believe the 1.4 source has the alsa version, which can still be downloaded I believe. But you'd have to build it yourself, and that can be a bit of a chore.

Hrm... it was a while ago that I had to jump through these loops. There might be something else contributing, but I can't remember what it was. I'll have to look into it.

I guess GE must have a problem with my system. I cannot add a wav through PlaySound2 either, it says - "This wav file is not supported" and asks for a PCM encoded wav file. Which is weird since I used same wave file collection for other games on Ubuntu 10.04 and it all worked fine.

Maybe I should try the older version of GE I used?

Tried "older" version, at least which I used on Lucid. But the effect is the same. Looks like this is something systematic, something connected to Ubuntu 12.04. I am on Xubuntu, btw.

Okay, a new thing which I uncovered - is that there is no sound in any of the compiled games I made with GE on my Ubuntu 12.04. Pulse Audio panel doesn't even show anything. No wonder GE crashes.
