How do you get or make your game sprites?

I'm drawing them on Gimp with a graphic tablet, it works fine.
Plus, I've chosen a retro pixelated art style for my game (a la Tyrian 2000 or Raiden) so it makes the job much easier.

Update on the Gimp-on-graphic-tablet thing, it does work fine for both sprites and backgrounds according to the genre of what you're playing. I've just finished a level designed after these houses in France and it is quite satisfying, I'll post pictures as soon as I'm not on my phone!

I agree. Gimp works fine and pixel-art is easier to make.

Have you figured out how to make game sprites yet? If not, are you asking how to actually produce graphics of any sort, or just spritesheets? If you're asking how to make spritesheets, then it's a lot like a film reel. There are frames which are played back to simulate movement. Each frame should be exactly the same width and height in pixels and you're golden. PS I don't know why I'm replying to this obviously outdated topic, I'm bored I guess..
